Together, we'll launch into a brighter future!
Dear Friends,
2023 has had a wonderful start, but the recent challenges to the Jewish people have underscored the vital need for strong and UNITED Jewish communities!
Now more than ever is the time for us to step up and not be intimidated by the darkness that wants us to do less and hide our Jewishness. Now is the time for us all to stand strong and tall, united on our most sacred common ground - being one great family! It's time for us to double down and do more good than ever before!
With your support we will be able to continue to do our work and give a vital BOOST to JEWISH LIFE.
A stronger local community means a stronger global Jewish community. THIS is how we can TOGETHER make a CHANGE for the GOOD in our world.
At The Shul, we are proud that Jews of all ages, backgrounds and affiliations have a place they call home for Jewish life, learning and community. By offering a wide range of activities for adults, children and the entire family, The Shul follows many paths to enrich Jewish life in our community. And by bringing many different ideas together, The Shul can help you find The Jewish Community in your heart.
It takes a village… to build a village. Here is a glimpse of the village that YOU are a key part of:
- Our ever-growing Shul services, of meaningful prayer, delicious Kiddush and friendly comradery is the place to be on Shabbat and holidays, to celebrate each other’s simchas or mark a Yahrtzeit together, as a community.
- Children play a big part in our community and the future of Judaism. With our JEMS Hebrew School, Bar and Bat Mitzvah programs, CTeen, Camp Gan Israel summer winter and break camps, and recently launched Mommy and Me programming, there is something exciting and engaging always happening at The Shul, offering hands-on Judaism with joy while educating and instilling Jewish pride in the next generation.
- The bond formed at The Shul Minyan every morning has formed special friendships focusing on our commonalities and Jewish living.
- The ongoing Jewish Women’s circle, where we Live, Laugh and Learn (and eat), offering creative Jewish opportunities to come together to study or just to hang out.
- Our increased focus on adult education has seen wonderful growth. Thank G-d we just welcomed Rabbi Zelig & Chanie Shemtov to lead Adult Education programs starting with three 6-week JLI courses throughout the year, pre-holiday classes and a major uptick in one-on-one Torah learning. The next JLI course, Advice for Life, begins next Wednesday, Jan 31.
- Our recently launched Grandfriends program pairs toddlers with seniors and have proved to create magical friendships through carefully planned activities and creative interactions, paving the way for a caring and connected community.
- Holidays, Holidays, Holidays… The Shul is at the forefront of Holiday celebrations. Offering fun, educational, and interactive programming for youth, men, women, families, and the broader community. Some of our popular holiday celebrations include High Holiday services with world-famous Cantor Shtark, Sukkot Mobiles and Sukkah parties, Grand Simchat Torah celebration, Purim parties, Passover Seders, Lag Baomer Jewish Family Festival, Shavuot 10 Commandments and Ice Cream Party and much more!
- Our largest event of the year, and indeed the largest outdoor Jewish event in Michigan, is the famous Menorah in the D event which brings together thousands of people to Downtown Detroit for a public display of Jewish proud and identity as we usher in the holiday of Chanukah for the entire City of Detroit. Thousands more tune in to the livestream and hundreds of thousands are impacted by the broad exposure on TV and in the media.
- Lovingly packaged gifts of challah, flowers and Shabbat kits are prepared and delivered every week by our amazing team of volunteers to celebrate a birthday or other special occasion, senior centers or YOU when a “pick me up-boost” is needed, with the message of “you are not alone”!
This year more than ever, because of the situation in Israel and the sentiments of antisemitism around the globe, many are feeling alone and a darkened sense of Jewish pride. We need to bring light to our community as a whole and to each one of us in particular. That's why we launched together with Chabad Lubavitch of Michigan a Mezuzah campaign called Protection for Israel, so that every Jewish home in Michigan should have a Mezuzah.
Your support is crucial to continuing to build our beautiful community and ensuring The Shul's efforts to be a beacon of Jewish light. Without you we simply cannot achieve this goal.
That's why this year we decided to launch our first End-of Year fundraiser. This will help The Shul end the calendar year in a fiscally responsible position, enabling us to continue to provide community members with the services and programs that have become integral to their lives.
Yes, you read that ambitious number correctly, $100,000 in 5 Days!
Watch your donation continue to grow and enjoy the “village” coming together to grow our community!
Please help us reach our goal!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
