Bat Mitzvah Discovery Course


As girls approach the age of Bat Mitzvah, preparations for their big day begin. Our course on basic Jewish traditions and Bat Mitzvah training includes stimulating discussions and presentations on intriguing areas of Jewish life that the children will not have encountered in Hebrew School or day school. These sessions will provide the child with valuable information that will prepare them for a most meaningful Bat Mitzvah.  This program will ignite in them a love and pride in their Judaism and will help them define who they are as Jews.

 

For 11 to 13 year olds, 6th and 7th graders.

The Bat Mitzvah Discovery Course is a 2 part program

    Discovery I

 Learn one on one with girls in the community to discover deep relevant lessons within the weekly Torah Portion.

 

Discovery II
 The Meaning Of Bat Mitzvah - A deep appreciation and understanding of this transformational life cycle event.
 
It includes awesome discussions and activities from 
    1. Aishet Chayil - A Woman of Valor - A detailed analysis of one of the most famous chapters of proverbs, written by King Solomon more than 2500 years ago. This chapter written about his mother outlines the role of the Jewish Woman.  (It is recited in Hebrew and English as part of the Bat Mitzvah ceremony).
 
 2. Jewish Women In History - A comprehensive study of the role of Jewish women throughout history with relevant lessons for life in the 21st century. 

 

 

 3. Special Mitzvot and Holidays Connected with Jewish Women - This unit will include a hands-on learning experience of the following Mitzvot: Shabbat Candles, Jewish Family Life, Challah, The Jewish Home (Kashrut, Mezzuzah and Peace In The Home), Tzedakah, Shabbat and Rosh Chodesh.
