What is “Super BIG Lighting in the ‘D’”?
“Super BIG Lighting in the ‘D’” is the 1st Annual Menorah Lighting in Detroit, on December 20, 2011 beginning at 5:30pm. This wondrous event is hosted by The Shul of West Bloomfield, and co-sponsored by Quicken Loans, Community Next, and Chef Cori Kosher Catering. A larger-than-life sized ice-carved menorah will be lit to celebrate the first night and beginning of Chanukah. There will be plenty of Chanukah Happenings to see and enjoy! You may warm yourself at the Donuts and Hot Soup Bar. Winter fun and Skating After-Party are at the Ice Rink At Campus Martius Park hosted by Community Next.
Where is the event?
Super BIG Lighting in the “D” will be held at Cadillac Square in Campus Martius Park in Detroit, Michigan; located downtown at 800 Woodward Ave.; south of Grand Circus Park and north of Hart Plaza.
When is the event?
Super BIG Lighting in the “D” will take place on December 20, 2011.
What time is the event?
Super BIG Lighting in the “D” will begin at 5:30pm.
How do I get there?Round-trip bus transportation will be available from The Shul, in West Bloomfield. 
The bus will leave from The Shul promptly at 4:15pm. The return bus will leave Campus Martius Park at 7pm.
The fee for the bus will be $10.
You must reserve your seat(s) by Dec. 16. Please contact The Shul office: 248-788-4000.

 

Do you have clear directions to get down there by car?
You may drive to Super BIG Lighting in the “D”.  The location is Campus Martius Park in Detroit, Michigan; located downtown at 800 Woodward Ave.; south of Grand Circus Park and north of Hart Plaza.  Campus Martius Park is located next to the Compuware Headquarters, whose address is 1 Campus Martius, Detroit, MI 48226.  Free parking has been arranged at Two Detroit Center Parking, located at 160 E. Congress St., Detroit, MI 48226.

From the north:
Take I-75 south. Keep LEFT to take I-375 South / Chrysler Fwy (Exit 51C toward Civic Center).  Stay straight onto westbound Jefferson Ave. E.  Turn RIGHT onto Randolph St.  Turn LEFT onto E. Congress St.  Arrive at Two Detroit Center Parking, 160 E. Congress St., Detroit, MI 48226.  Park in the structure.
 
From the west:
Take M-10 South / The John C Lodge Fwy. to downtown.  The M-10 South becomes Jefferson Ave. W.  Turn LEFT onto M-1 North / Woodward Ave.  At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Cadillac Square / M-3 North.  Turn RIGHT onto Randolph St.  Take the 1st RIGHT onto E. Congress St.  Arrive at Two Detroit Center Parking, 160 E. Congress St., Detroit, MI 48226.  Park in the structure.

Where can I park?
   

Free parking has been arranged at Two Detroit Center Parking, located at 160 E. Congress St., Detroit, MI 48226.
This parking structure is located across the street from Cadillac Square.  Please note to take advantage of the free parking you must: park no earlier than 5:15 pm (because there are many downtown workers who park there and parking is limited before 5:15 pm). You must leave the parking structure by 11:00 p.m.  We instruct you to bring the parking voucher/ticket to the Menorah Lighting and have someone stamp it.

Plenty of additional parking is available nearby at regular rates.

What is there to do there?
The Menorah Lighting ceremony will be beautiful to see and experience.  After the Menorah Lighting, there will be fun Chanukah Happenings, Light jugglers, glow in the dark handouts, dreidels, gelt, a Donuts and Hot Soup Bar, and a Skating After-Party at the Ice Rink At Campus Martius Park hosted by Community Next
What are the costs to attend the event?
Admission is FREE to attend The 1st Annual Menorah Lighting in Detroit - Super BIG Lighting in the “D”! 
The Donuts and Hot Soup Bar is FREE!
Free parking has been arranged at Two Detroit Center Parking, located at 160 E. Congress St., Detroit, MI 48226.
Round-trip bus transportation will be available from The Shul, in West Bloomfield.  The fee for the bus will be $10.
The usual skating rates will apply for the Skating After-Party at the Rink At Campus Martius Park.
How long is the event?
The Menorah Lighting ceremony will begin at 5:30pm and should take approximately 45 minutes.  Then you may participate in the other events, festivities, and skating available there.  The return bus will leave Campus Martius Park at 7pm.
